I loved working on this image. It proved to be a bit more challenging than I expected as I had to zoom in real close to clone out some of the scratches without blurring out the detail of knitted jersey and I had to rebuild facial features practically pixel by pixel - a bit like being a digital plastic surgeon,
The people in the picture are my client's ancestors on his late father’s side. The lady in the back row with the big hat is his grandmother. The photo was most likely taken in the Karoo (Western Cape, South Africa), circa 1920s.
Image was scanned some years ago, but thankfully at a resolution of 200dpi, which gives us the wonderful detailing in the knitted jersey, Took around three hours to restore. Scratches removed, facial features rebuilt, exposure corrected.
