The original was scanned at high resolution. The bottom of the picture was obscured, probably from light leaking into the camera at the time the picture was taken, so I decided to crop this off rather than repair it as the aim here was to colour the image. The foliage behind her chest was removed as it was distracting and some of the remaining light scatter was repaired. Then some final dust and noise removal and exposure adjustments before starting the colouring process.
The colouring was done completely manually and reference pictures from historical collections were used to identify the correct colours for the uniform. The work took around four hours to complete.
The picture is from my own personal collection and is of my grandmother (mum's side) in her WAAF uniform during World War Two.
